Dirty Dan (Daniel Jefferson Harris)
Daniel Jefferson Harris was born in 1826 in Patchogue, Long Island. He died in 1890. Dirty Dan was a criminal, smuggler, sailor, good business man, stinkiest man in the territory, a real estate agent, and an alcoholic. Washington history was effected by Daniel Harris because he hadn’t come to Washington, then Fairhaven wouldn’t exist. He founded Fairhaven, in Bellingham. He was famous and infamous because he was a criminal and he founded a town. He wore red flannel underwear, a frock coat, unlaced boots, a top hat, pants, and a red undershirt.
Daniel Jefferson Harris built a 3-story hotel complete with a piano. He got his name, Dirty Dan, because he was dirty and the stinkiest man in the territory. Daniel was 200 pounds and 6 feet tall, witch was very big for that time.
